In 2018, Rapinoe was made cocaptain. Rapinoe has had two points for the United States in the 4-3 victory against Australia during the bronze Olympic medal game at Tokyo in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that Japan was forced to postpone to 2021 due to the effects of this pandemic, also won the gold in Tokyo in 2016.
